Norma June Underwood, 87, of Galesburg, died at 7:34 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2026, in Marigold Health Care Center.

She was born May 27, 1939, in Galesburg, the daughter of Jesse Hudson and Orpha Lucille (Smith) Underwood. As her mother died shortly after childbirth, she was raised by her grandparents, Jesse and Olive Underwood.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, Marsha (Tim) Pedigo of Galesburg, Ginny (Don) Kerr of Iowa City, Iowa, Rick (Kelly) Banks of Missouri, Brad (Querina) Banks of Colorado, and Jeanne Banks of Galesburg; and her dear cat, PJ, who now lives with Brittany. She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; and her sister, Florence Marie Banks.

Norma worked in food service at Knox College for 33 years before retiring. She was a lifelong Galesburg resident who graduated from Galesburg High School in 1958. Norma was a longtime member of Faith United Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Her seamstress talents enabled her to make beautiful prom and dance dresses for her nieces. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking. Norma had a side hustle making birthday and wedding cakes.

Private family graveside service was held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Knox County Humane Society. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral and Cremation Services is honored to serve the family. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.h-p-w.com.
