Mr. CW Goodson, 81, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away peacefully Friday, May 3, 2024, at the Allure of Knox County Nursing Home surrounded by his family.

CW was born April 29, 1943, in Itta Bena, Mississippi, the son of Clarence and Ida Mae (Triplett) Goodson. He married Ernestine Turner and later married his high school sweetheart, Rev. Johnnie Gordon-Trammell on November 22, 2015, in Galesburg. He was welcomed into her family by her children, Donald E. Trammell of Detroit, Michigan, Rev. Tammie (James) Miller and Rev. Kimberly (Calvin) Bonds both of Galesburg; seven grandchildren, James McDonald, DeMarcus Haynes, Blair Haynes, Virginia Miller, Sherilynn Riggs, Mattison Jackson and Kymorrah Jackson and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his very close friend of more than thirty years, Mr. Gene Berry of Georgia and eleven siblings, Annie Laura Walker, Lessie Mobley, Rosetta Cumming, Jean Goodson, Clarence Goodson, Jr., Betty Mae Holmes, Willie James Goodson, Kenneth Goodson, Rosemary McCraney, Frances Roberson, and Joyce Theodore. He is preceded in death by his parents, and one great grandchild.

CW graduated from Breisch High School in Leland, Mississippi and later enlisted in the US Army, serving four years. CW owned and operated Sunland Scrap Service in Norwood, Georgia retiring in 2013.

CW found peace in gardening and playing in the dirt. He could often be found searching topics or playing games on his computer. CW was a member of the American Legion in Georgia.

A Memorial Service celebrating CW’s life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Second Baptist Church. Revs. Kimberly Bonds and Tammy Miller will officiate. A time for fellowship will follow the services at the church. In honor of his service time in the Army, the flag will be presented by his son-in-law, James Miller. Memorials may be made to the Second Baptist Church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting his family with arrangements.
