The Henderson County Sheriff’s Department has recently established a TRIAD Program to assist senior citizens. One main goal of the group, Seniors and Law Enforcement Together, is to provide education about ongoing scams, informs TRIAD Officer Gary Lucas:
“Our goal is to prevent crimes against seniors through education, assistance involvement, and communication. A lot of them, believe it or not, are internet crimes. The older generation now, they all have cell phones and fall victim to a lot of scam artists, as far as the grandparent scam, which they get a phone call from a voice that really doesn’t sound familiar saying ‘ Grandma I’m in jail and I need money.’ These scam artists are very, very convincing.”
With a sequence as small as five words, an artificial intelligence program can pick up your voice.
