Kitchen Fire Under Investigation by Macomb Fire Department

At 09:39 PM, Tuesday May 28th, 2024, the Macomb Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 328 W. Woodbury St. The initial dispatch stated that the occupant believed the gas line was on fire. The first arriving units arrived on scene at 09:42 PM and began an initial size-up. Fire command spoke with the homeowner who stated that all occupants were out of the building and that he had shut the gas off at the gas meter. During the exterior size-up command located the fire in the kitchen area and directed attack crews to begin an interior attack. The attack crew located the fire in the kitchen around the area of the stove and began extinguishment. A primary search of the building was completed, and overhaul began as the crew searched for hot spots. The fire was deemed under control at 10:15 PM.

No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.

Smoke Alarms were present and sounding at the time of arrival by fire crews.

The structure sustained fire, smoke, and water damage throughout and has an estimated loss of $20,000.

The fire is believed to be unintentional and remains under investigation by the Macomb Fire Department.

Five on-duty Macomb Firefighters initially responded with an additional Seven off-duty firefighters called back to assist on scene and to cover other calls for service. Thank you to Macomb – McDonough County Communications Center, Macomb Illinois Police Department, Macomb Public Works, Lifeguard Ambulance Service of Illinois, and Ameren IL for their assistance with the fire. The scene cleared at 12:42 AM.
