Toberman Set School Discus Record at Augustana Qualifier

A week after winning three Midwest Conference titles, Caleb Toberman (Clifton, Illinois) broke a 10-year-old Monmouth school record in the discus on Thursday. Throwing at the Augustana Last Chance Qualifier, Tobermen sailed the discus 52.66m to break the record of 51.77m set by DeAndre Smith in 2014. Toberman’s throw won the discus open event on Thursday and is more than 4m more than the PR (48.07m) he set two weeks ago at the Monmouth home meet.

The discus throw also has Toberman ranked 10th nationally in the event as of 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. The top 22 for each event qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina next week. The official list of qualifiers will be announced this weekend.

Maddie Boley (Beecher, Illinois) and Kayla Braun (Evansville, Illinois) also threw on Thursday but neither set new PR’s in the shot put or hammer. As of Thursday night, Boley ranks 18th in the discus but outside the top 22 in the other events.
