United Red Storm Girls Track and Field Place 8th as a Team at IHSA State Finals; 4×200 Relay Breaks State Record

The IHSA girls track and field state finals were held over the weekend on the famous blue track at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. The Class 1A, 2A and 3A final rounds took place throughout the day on Saturday. In class 1A, the United Red Storm girls track squad was represented by three relay teams and Reece Bertelsen in the open 200 meter race. The 4×100 team of Emrick Huston, Katie and Rosie Flynn and Bertelsen placed 2nd, just missing a state championship by .34 seconds. The 4×400 team of both Flynns, Reece Bertelsen and Callie Hall placed 4th, also bringing home a medal. Bertelsen also brought home a medal in the 200 by finishing 8th in the state. She ends her Red Storm track career by garnering an amazing 10 medals in just three years. The highlight for United in Charleston this weekend was the 4×200 meter team of Huston, Katie and Rosie Flynn and Bertelsen again. The quartet not only crossed the finish line in first place but broke the Illinois state record with a time of 1:41.78.
