Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 26, 2024:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athletes of the Week are track and field seniors Rhett Willett, Darrion Smith and Jekxel Rivera Ruiz and junior Maddox Clark. These four combined on two relays at the class 2A IHSA State Finals. The 4×200 meter relay team came within .2 seconds from qualifying for the final round. The 4×400 team came under a second from qualifying.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior baseball player, Lance Baker. Lance was selected to the Lincoln Trail Conference All-West Division 1st team for his performance on the pitching mound this season. He posted an ERA of 2.16, while tying for the team-lead in wins with 6. Lance only suffered one loss for the entire season and pitched the second most innings on the team.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior softball player, Shelby Bowman. Shelby’s rbi double early in the sectional semifinal game against Sterling Newman Central Catholic gave the Heat the only run it would need in a 5-0 win. For the season, Shelby had the second highest batting average and only struck out an amazing six times all season.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athletes of the Week are senior track and field athletes, Dominic Cantarini, Plamedi Nseka, Andrew Peterson and Luke Thomas. These four combined to run the 3rd fastest 4×800 meter relay time in school history at the IHSA State Finals in Charleston. Their time of 7:55.25 was good enough for them all to bring home 7th place medals.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior baseball player, Drew Foutch. Drew was named to the Lincoln Trail Conference All-West Division first team. He batted .307 for the season and knocked in the second-most runs on the team. Even better yet, Drew was also named to the Lincoln Trail Conference’s All-Academic team for his performance in the classroom.
