United Red Storm Football Will Have New Look, New Opponent to Start 2024

The United Red Storm sports year has come to a close and after a short break, summer workouts and preparation for the fall sports season will begin. The Red Storm will have a new man in charge of its varsity football program. After 7 years of leading United onto the gridiron on Friday nights, David Milroy resigned his position as head coach to spend more time with his family. After a successful high school multi-sport career at Stark County, Milroy continued on to play football at Monmouth College and took over the Red Storm football coaching job in 2017. He led the Storm to the playoffs in 2021, their first appearance since 2015. The 2023 United squad went (3-6) in a LincolnLand Small School Division in which 4 of the 9 teams made the playoffs. Taking over the program is Andrew Goodwin. Goodwin is 2016 graduate of Riverdale High School and 2020 graduate and football player at Eureka College. He brings with him wealth of coaching knowledge that he has acquired spending the past four season on the coaching staff at Normal Community High School, specifically as a wide receivers coach. The Ironmen have went (29-6) in the past 3 years, including (12-1) and an appearance in the class 7A state semifinals this past fall. United Athletic Director Jeremy Sharp said the district is excited to bring in a coach with Goodwin’s background and youthful exuberance.

Nearly everything will be new for the Red Storm football team once the 2024 season gets underway on week one for United. Not only will they have a new coach in charge, but the opponent will be totally new, as well. United was originally scheduled to play the Mercer County Golden Eagles on August 30th. Mercer County has left the Lincoln Trail Conference for the Three Rivers Athletic Conference, while the Bureau Valley Storm has done the opposite. Bureau Valley is the newest member of the LTC and will now play the United Red Storm in week one.
