Allen L. Allbaugh, age 83 of Knoxville Illinois died at 5:20 pm on Thursday Maye 23, 2024 at his home in Knoxville, Illinois surrounded by his family.
He was born on October 28, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Warren K. and Ruth (Current) Allbaugh. He married the love of his life Mary Ellen (Bouma) on September 14, 2963 in Fairfield Montana; they were married for 56 years before she preceded him in death on October 14, 2019.
Surviving are his daughters: Dianna (John) Hillebrand of Farmington, Illinois, Juileen (Donald) Hummel of Chillicothe, Illinois and Dan’Neile (Matt) Comandini of Knoxville, Illinois and seven grandchildren: Christopher and Bryce Hillenbrand of Farmington, Steven, Tony, Mari Beth and Angelina Comandini of Knoxville and Lauralana Hummel of Chillicothe. His siblings: Roy (Anita) Allison of Knoxville, Iowa and Virginia (Terry) McMurray of Bussey, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one sister, Geraldine (Jake) Smith.
Allen served in the Airforce, where he worked on jet engines and then at Boeing where he worked on the first 747 engine. In Tucson, he helped convert military plans into fire retardant air tanks. He owned a Gulf Gas Station in Eugene, Oregon and was a volunteer fireman in the state of Washington for many years. Allen was a professional locksmith contracted by the government to key up HUD housing in Washington state and the prison in Tucson, Arizona. He worked as a school bus driver and supply manager at Sunnyside School District Tucson, Arizona. Allen was a long term and active member of the United Church of God. They retired here in Knoxville, Illinois.
You could always find Allen sitting on the front porch with a cheese stick ready for any dog being walked and ready to smile and wave to any passerby. Allen had a great love for nature and the outdoors. He also loved steam engine trains and airplanes with a special interest in the Mustang his father flew in during World War II.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 9, 2024 with funeral services following visitation at 2:30 pm. Services will be held at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville. He will be laid to rest alongside his wife Mary Ellen at the Knoxville Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to the Allbaugh’s home for a gathering following the funeral. Graveside services will take place on Monday June 10, 2024 at 11:00 am with military honors.
