Monmouth Police Department in Early Discussion with License Plate Capture Vendor

Share

At the recent Monmouth City Council meeting, Police Chief Joe Switzer touched on a recent meeting with a vendor who manufactures automatic license plate recognition camera systems, which would be utilized for investigative purposes only, explains Communications Director Ken Helms:

“Chief Switzer and I also spoke with a vendor in regards to automatic plate recognition type cameras. Those are becoming extremely popular in a lot of the small and large areas in Illinois and a couple of other different states. There is a pretty active vendor that sets them up and basically just captures license plates as they drive by. They are not the speed cameras that you are used to, they are just used for investigative purposes and things like that.”

The Monmouth Police Department is also in their second month with the implementation of the body camera systems.
