Sandra Kay Heiman, 81, of Monmouth, died at 8:05 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2024, in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, following a short illness.
She was born November 26, 1942, in Kewanee, the daughter of Woodrow and Virginia (McKinney) Swearingen. She married William Eugene “Bill” Heiman on February 12, 1961, in Vandalia. He preceded her in death on July 17, 2018, after more than 57 years of marriage.
She is survived by three children, Bill (Lori) Heiman Jr. of Galesburg, Ruth (Doug) Mueller of Oquawka, and Joy (Neil) Ruhl of Knoxville; 12 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; siblings, Lonnie Swearingen of Kewanee, Linda Pembroke of Hillsboro, Carol Lange of Sheffield, and Mary (Denny) Cantwell of Bradford; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Kelli Howell in 2020; and siblings, Sherman Swearingen, Ruth Ann Swearingen, Jack Swearingen, and Doris Roach.
Sandra was a homemaker. She was very family oriented, so spending time with her loved ones was very meaningful to her. Sandra was proud to be called “Grandma Great” by her grandkids. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and crafting. She was a three-time cancer survivor.
Cremation will be accorded. The family will host a celebration of life from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Mama’s Place in Oquawka.
