The United School District’s budget was amended at the recent Board of Education meeting, explains retiring Superintendent Jeff Whitsitt:

“With the reorganization, we just had some expenses that have come up. We have the cash flow, it is not a product of that, so we did amend a couple of funds, the ED (Educational) fund and the O & M (Operations & Maintenance) fund, which unfortunately is not atypical either. We tend to do that a lot of times that is because we will land money throughout the school year that we didn’t know we were going to get. The amendment looks worse than it is. We did overspend by around $100,000, but leaving things in good shape. Over $5 million in the ED fund to get started with for July 1. We amended the O & M budget a little bit with the projects we have been doing as a part of the reorganization. Overall though, the budget should be shaping up pretty well. We will zero in at the end of the year here, but those amendments will take care of it so we meet the requirements of the budget.”

Whitsitt will retire at the end of June, where Tom Hawkins will officially take over as Superintendent of the United School District on July 1st, 2024.
