Braydon Decounter

Wednesday morning at the Warren County Agricultural Fair kicked off a week of livestock shows with the rabbit and poultry shows. Braydon Decounter, Lincoln Land Community College sophomore and judging team member, was the judge for the 2024 poultry show. He says, despite it being a small poultry show, he was shocked at the variety of birds showcased.

“I saw many different [types] from your meat birds to sapphire gems, Rhode Island Reds, Polish,  and then some crossbreds were in there,” says Decounter. “There were many different breeds- I was expecting to see a couple of breeds today, but Warren County brought up many, many different breeds.”

Among the showmen at this year’s poultry show was Jayden Kunkle, who showed his Americana, Cochin, Buff Orpington, and Polish chickens.

“He asked me for junior showmanship, ‘Do you know the difference between like a younger chick a younger rooster, and older rooster’ and it’s confusing sometimes,” says Kunkle.  “But, then it works out that’s how it usually goes.”

Results from the 2024 Warren County Agricultural Fair 4-H Poultry Show:
