The Galesburg FFA chapter has taken a big step forward this year by opening up its very first Junior High FFA program. Logan Yeutson, Galesburg FFA President, shares that the response has been overwhelming.
“This year we just opened up our junior high program,” says Yeutson. “The school started offering an intro to ag class for junior high, kind of like a briefing of what FFA is and what agriculture is all about.”
Even though it’s the first time the FFA has been offered to students in Junior High in Galesburg, the response has exceeded expectations.
“We have 28 junior high students in our one ag class this year,” shares Yeutson. “We decided that we weren’t just going to get that class and just have them come to stuff. So, we decided to elect five junior high officers to kind of shadow us, just get them started rolling, and they’re just going to go straight up into it.”
While the junior high members are still getting started, the chapter is already looking ahead to competitions. With the addition of a new agriculture teacher this year, the program is focused on building a strong foundation.
