Warren County Agricultural Fair Swine Show

Thursday at the Warren County Agricultural Fair kicked off with the swine show. Justin Lewis, a livestock judging coach at John Wood Community College was the judge of the swine show.

“A great quality through the show today on the breeding side and the market side. 4-H is a great tool, not only to raise some high-quality livestock but, get to develop youth as well,” says Lewis. “The champion barrow, obviously on the market side, is a muscular sound made hog. It has plenty of performance, width, and dimension about him; and yet still some market hog fundamentals of muscle, shape, and expression are all important.”

The Grand Champion Barrow was exhibited by Aubrey Killey.

For some showmen in the ring, showing is more than just seeing results in their animal’s breed composition. For 13-year-old Rhykerd Greer of the Willing Workers 4-H club, his favorite part of showing is showmanship.

“It just shows off your skills and that becomes before breeding because it opens way more doors than breeding,” says Greer.

Greer finished the 4-H swine show winning senior showmanship, reserve champion pairs, and third overall cross bread.
