Martha E Ray, Age 65

Shortly after 11:00 pm on Thursday, July 4, 2024, officers were leaving the area of Lake Storey after completing the firework event. In the 3500 block of N Henderson Street, officers found a male subject lying in the road unresponsive. Medical personnel were called to the scene and life-saving efforts were made. The victim was transported to St. Mary’s ER for treatment. The victim, Eric K McKinney, age 46, was pronounced deceased at 12:16 a.m. on July 5.

The investigation determined that McKinney had been struck by a vehicle that had fled the scene southbound. McKinney had been on a bicycle at the time of the crash.  Further investigation led officers to locate the driver, Martha E Ray, age 65.  Ray was arrested for leaving the scene of a fatality crash, taken to the Knox County Jail, and detained pending a court appearance.

The investigation into this matter is ongoing, and further charges are pending.
