Janice Stremmel, 84, of East Galesburg, passed away at home on Wednesday, July 6, 2024.

Janice was born on October 18, 1939 in Oakland, Maine. She was the daughter of Harold and Clarice (Parlin) Burke. She married James A. Stremmel, Sr. on July 11, 1959 in Westbrook, Maine. Together they celebrated 54 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on October 22, 2013. Surviving Janice are her daughters, Jamie (Chuck) Allen of Abingdon and Julie Falls of East Galesburg; six grandchildren, Kyle, Ashley, Tim, Chelsea, Tyler and Miranda; two great-grandchildren, Ayden and Liam; a sister Beatrice Babbage and nephew, Brue Babbage. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, James Stremmel, Jr.

Janice graduated from Westbrook High School. She was a veteran of the United States Army. After her military service she attended Carl Sandburg College for two years. She was a bookkeeper for Herr Petroleum for 30 years. She was a member of the East Galesburg Community Chapel Church, Knox County TRIAD and the Women’s Group at her church.

Cremation rites have been accorded. No services are scheduled at this time. Hurd Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory have been entrusted with her wishes and are assisting with her arrangements. Online condolences or expressions of sympathy may be made through www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhomes.com
