Fair season is here, and 4-Hers are hard at work preparing for their upcoming contests and shows. The McDonough County Fair will be taking place at the fairgrounds in Macomb from July 13 through the 17th. Beth Chatterton, McDonough County 4-H Program Coordinator highlights the upcoming Fair.
“Our fair starts July 13 with the general show, and goes all the way until July 17, which is a Wednesday, ending with our cattle show,” says Chatterton. “We have a foundation foods auction, which is lots of fun, where members can make cakes, pies, cookies, that sort of thing.”
Chatterton adds that there are opportunities for adults to participate.
“If you were in 4-H or maybe just learning about 4-H now, and you’re like, oh, I want to, like, either relive or get involved. We have an adult pie contest for Tuesday night of the fair where you can make a pie, it gets judged, and the top five go on to a live auction.”
Those that don’t make it into the live auction will be entered in a silent auction. Half the proceeds from the auctions will go towards the McDonough County 4-H Foundation to support student scholarships and activities.
