Monmouth City Clerk Appointed or Elected Position Heads to Voters

Share

With the announcement that Monmouth City Clerk Susan Trevor will not be seeking reelection, City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher presented a resolution to City Council of asking voters to decide if the City Clerk’s position should be an appointed position rather than elected:

“The reason for that is, it really is a part-time position and with the complexities of government procedures and the organizational challenges that we have, having the ability to appoint a City Clerk helps us recruit qualified individuals that have the skill set to really perform that position. I think making it an appointed position will help us attract and retain a qualified individual to do many of the things. It is also more of an administrative position and not a policy making position.”

Monmouth City Council did pass the resolution and the question of having the City Clerk position be appointed or elected will appear on the November General Election ballot.
