Monmouth Investigator Warns of Toll Payment Phishing Scams

Share

If you have received a text message saying you have unpaid tolls in Illinois, Monmouth Police Department Investigator Josh Kramer informs that is a phishing scam and the message should be deleted:

“They are phishing text messages and it will say that it is the Illinois Tollway, you have unpaid fines, something along those lines, and it will have a link on the bottom. Once you hit that link they will start requesting payment information and it is not the Illinois Tollway Authority. You have all the resources at your fingertips to verify the messages, the information that is getting sent to you, it is just taking that extra step to see if it is really legit.”

If you do in fact need to pay a toll in Illinois, or to verify if you have an outstanding toll amount, visit illinoistollway.com.
