Monmouth City Council has approved using motor fuel tax funds for phase two of the West Harlem Avenue project from G Street to Sunny Lane, allowing the project to be completed all at once. Due to setbacks from unforeseen underground infrastructure issues, the City’s road engineering firm, IMEG, did do a redesign to change directional flow of storm water to avoid other infrastructure, but they are hopeful to have the road back open before winter sets in, says Communications Director Ken Helms:

“We want as much progress as we can get before it closes down and material is really going to end up being the limiting factor here. The production of concrete all has a time period on it, depending on what the weather conditions are for both production and laying of it. We can keep our fingers crossed that if the early winter stays warm like it did last year, that is going to get them a lot further along. After the underground and the road, there is also sidewalks that are being introduced; there is still quite a bit of the project left to do.”

Additionally, progress on the Downtown Beautification project continues as crews are finishing the crosswalks, handrails are being installed, and painting and striping will begin soon. On Monday, October 27th at 1 pm there will be a ribbon cutting of the Public Square project.
