Roger D. Peterson, 86, of Galesburg, died at 4:28 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2024, in Seminary Manor.

He was born April 3, 1938, in Galesburg, the son of Dean A. and Francis (Becker) Peterson. He married Trudy K. (Wilson) Curran on June 17, 1965, in Greely, Colorado. She preceded him in death on August 27, 2015, after more than 50 years of marriage.

He is survived by three children, John Michael (Joanne) Curran Jr. of Galesburg, Deb (Todd) Sallee of Victoria, and Denise Morton of Anson, Texas; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Minnette Peterson.

Roger worked for OMC Gale Products as an electronics engineer for 38 years before retiring. He worked with Terry Tulin in his wine making business as well.

Roger was a veteran of the United States Navy. He served from 1956 to 1962 and was stationed aboard the USS Hornet and USS Yorktown. He was a mechanic for the Model Grumman F2F aircraft.

Outside of work and his military career, Roger enjoyed being a member of a wine and beer tasting club. He was an avid gardener and a 20-year volunteer for the Stearman Fly-In.

Cremation will accorded. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2024, at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Rev. Vince Marolla will officiate, and Military Honors will be offered by the Navy. Memorial contributions may be made to the Iowa City Children’s Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
