Samuel E. Strange,74, of Des Moines, IA formerly of Monmouth, Il passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at his home.

Sam was born April 27, 1950 in Monmouth, IL the son of Samuel and Kathryn (Abbott) Strange.  He was raised and educated in Monmouth, attending Monmouth High School.

Sam served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He married Anna McCann in Kankakee, IL in 1977 and she passed away in 1995. Sam later married Pamela Ortery in Monmouth on April 27, 2000 and she survives.

Sam worked for Excel Packing in Ottumwa, IA.  He also worked for a time as a painter.

He enjoyed doing carpentry, fishing, camping, golfing, his beloved dog Gigi and spending time with his family and friends. 

Survivors include his wife Pamela Strange of Des Moines; his daughter, Jenni (Tracy) Barton of St. Joseph, MO; sons, Steve (Marcy) Strange of  Des Moines and Danny (Andrea) Strange of Monmouth, IL; 2 stepsons, Duane Harper of Franklin, South Carolina and Shawn Shafer of Centerville, IA; stepdaughter, Rachel (Tommy) Jenkins of Ollie, IA; grandchildren, Gage (Lindsey) Barton, Gabriel Barton, Steven (Alexis) Strange, II, Cassie Williams, Shelby Strange and Caleb Strange; his step grandchildren, Tommy Jenkins, Wyatt Jenkins, Kyler Shafer, Matthe Shafer and Sadie Harper; great-grandchildren, Emma Barton, Owen Barton, Steven Strange III and Waylen Strange.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Sanuel Johnson and Katheryn Clark; wife Anna Strange; 2 brothers, Larry Strange and Bob Strange; 2 sisters, Mary Strange and Barb Dysinger.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, July 6, 2024 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL.  Interment with Military Honors will be at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth.  Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm, Friday, July 5, 2024 at the funeral home.  Memorial donations may be given to the Samuel E.
