The City of Monmouth is working with the Illinois EPA and United States EPA to conduct a survey in order to locate the lead service lines in need of replacement, shares Mayor Rod Davies:
“We are working with both the U.S. and Illinois EPA to do the actual survey to find out exactly where the lead service lines are and how many we have. We actually have just over $3 million, almost $3.8 million available to us to actually begin the replacement. We will be starting in the 4th Ward and parts of the 3rd Ward and will begin as soon as we know exactly where they are at.”
Additionally, Sarah Walters, owner of Market Alley Wines, presented a proposal to City Council to replace the fountain of Monmouth’s Downtown Square to a statue with an illuminated outer ring and a Maple Leaf in the center that will slowly rotate. No action by Monmouth City Council has been taken at this time.
