Mrs. Ellen B. Pferschy, 82, of Knoxville, Illinois died 1:25 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2024, at the Courtyard Estates in Knoxville. 

She was born December 6, 1941, in Galesburg, Illinois to Otis R. and Grace E. (Marquith) Martin.  She married Allen M. Pferschy, Sr. on October 15, 1960, in East Galesburg, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on November 24, 2009.

Surviving is her daughter, Sue Ellen (and Mike) Davidson of Galesburg, two granddaughters, Hilary (and Christopher McCrea) of Knoxville and Natalie Davidson of Galesburg, and several great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Allen M. Pferschy, Jr. on December 10, 2021, two brothers, Charles M. Martin and Otis “Butch” Martin, and a sister, Mary M. Martin Smith. 

Ellen graduated from Knoxville High School in 1960.  She worked for area grocery stores and Admiral Manufacturing Company in Galesburg.  She then worked in the cafeteria at the Knoxville Junior High School food services for 20 years and retired in 1996.  She was of the Christian Faith.  She was a member of the Rail City Ramblers Camping Club.  She was a past member of the Postal Auxiliary and the American Businesswomen’s Association.  Ellen was a volunteer for the Mississippi Valley Blood Center, Kids Camp, and was a reader for the area school’s reading programs.  She enjoyed traveling, camping and reading. 

As Ellen requested, cremation will be accorded.  A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel.  Chaplain Jordan Knight will officiate.  Cremation burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
