Each and every day it seems a new scam comes to light to try and separate local residents from their money or personal information. On Tuesday, August 20th, State Representative Dan Swanson, the Farmers State Bank of Western Illinois, local sheriffs, and the Illinois Attorney General’s office are coming together to host a seminar on ‘how to avoid being scammed,’ explains Customer Service Representative at the Farmers State Bank in Aledo, Amber Ruggles:
“We just encourage everyone to attend. Everyone is welcome. We are just trying to raise awareness. We want to try and protect people and make them aware of these scams that are out there and also for the people who have been scammed. You are not alone. We see this all the time. We see this daily. I think there might be some embarrassment there with the people who have been through this, but there is no need to be, because trust me, it happens all the time. It is almost daily we see something and so we are just trying to bring awareness to these scams.”
This informative seminar discussing ongoing scams is free and open to the public and will be held at the Oxford American Legion in Alpha, located at 211 West A Street, from 9 to 10 am.
