James A. “Jim” Gumm, 67, of Galesburg, died Friday, August 23, 2024, at his home.

He was born April 15, 1957, in Galesburg, the son of John “Jack” and E. Jane (Pottorf) Gumm.

He is survived by his fiancé, Gina Crum of Galesburg; children, Samantha (Joe) Giroux of Heyworth, Tyler (Makenzie) Gumm of Galesburg, and Dana Gumm of Knoxville; six grandchildren, Travis Gleason, Kendra Gleason, Beau Gumm, Colin Giroux, Luna Gumm, and Oaklyn Gumm; brother, Douglas Gumm of Galesburg; close friends, Roger (Nancy) Schrodt of Galesburg, John (Debbie) Hagan of Galesburg, and Steve (Lisa) Hood of Industry; and the mother of his children, Linda (Erickson) Zimmerman of Canton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Jack James Giroux.

Jim was a 1975 graduate of Galesburg High School and attended Carl Sandburg College.

Jim was a farmer. He also served as the Galesburg Township Road Commissioner. He was a member of the Knox County Farm Bureau and was also involved in Jaycees.

When Jim wasn’t farming, he enjoyed going to tractor pulls – previously behind the wheel of the Glory Seeker and the Glory Seeker II and more recently as a spectator.

Jim enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, attending family events, watching his grandchildren grow and play, vacationing, eating out, and napping in the recliner.

Jim was a good man. He was kind and thoughtful. He was caring and selfless. He was a wonderful son, brother, father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor. You could count on him to show up, no matter what. There will never be another one like Jimbo.

Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1556 E. Fremont St, Galesburg, IL.
