Robert Lynn Treasure, 75, is known by his friends and family as “Bob” and “Bobby”. He lived in Galesburg, Illinois. Bob passed on Friday – August 23, 2024, at 2:13 pm while recovering at the Allure of Knox County in Galesburg. Beside him was Verna, his wife of 51 years.
Born December 9, 1948, in Kirksville, Missouri into a family of nine. The second son of Robert Ezra and Elizabeth Ellen (McClanahan) Treasure. He married Verna Jean Vice on August 18, 1973, in LaPlata, Missouri with an attendance of five counting the pastor.
Bob has five surviving siblings; three brothers, Larry (Cathy Moore) Treasure, Roger (Sherry Grissom) Treasure and Randy (Sarah) Treasure; two sisters, Conny (the late Doyle) Dover and Karen (the late Roger) Prewitt. Numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and Cheryl Treasure his three-month-old sister.
Bob enlisted in the US Navy as part of the Naval Construction Battalions, better known as the Navy Seabees. Serving from 1968 to 1970, he received his training at Gulfport, Mississippi and was sent to the war in Vietnam. There he was stationed at the DMZ zone, then Quang Tri and finally Da Nang. Coming home, Stateside he served with the Navy in New Orleans during the 1969 hurricane of Camille and helped with evacuation and after mat cleanup.
Returning home from the service, Bob owned and operated the franchise Phillip 66 service station in Kirksville, Missouri. At the age of 30, he moved to Galesburg, Illinois where he worked at Quality Body Shop on North Henderson Street until it closed. He then restored a machine shop at 3175 North Henderson Street in Galesburg, his lifetime home residence. There he worked as a mechanic until he became employed with the City of Galesburg at their Central Garage. He was employed with the City from 1985 until his retirement in 2010, 24 years; 20 of those years as Superintendent of the city’s Central Garage. He was proud of his work crew and loyal to them. He was a tough manager but that was Bob, he was tough.
In Galesburg he became a member of the Press Club. Bob especially enjoyed listening to music on his large inventory of LP’s , Harley Davidson motorcycles and spending time with his friends. His friends were a big part of his life and very important to him.
Bob’s wishes will be honored. He will be cremated without formal services. His ashes will be scattered to honor his desire to be set free. There will be a stone set in his memory at Sloan’s Point Cemetery in rural Kirksville, Missouri. Those wishing to honor Bob with a memorial gift may consider the local VFW #2257 in Galesburg or a cause of their choice.
