Mr. James Andrew Andree, 61, of Galesburg, Illinois died peacefully at his home, surrounded by loving family and his extraordinary care team at 2:32 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024.

James was born to Raymond and Maridean (Gould) Andree on July 23, 1963, in Moline, Illinois.

Surviving James is his twin sister, Julie (Tom) Armstrong of Oconto, Wisconsin; sister, Jolleen (Bill) Montgomery of Orion, Illinois; his two brothers, Jeffrey (Carol) Andree of Kissimmee, Florida and Jonathan Andree of Florida. James is survived by many devoted nieces and nephews, as well as his friends and staff at his group home in Galesburg. James is preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Wendy Andree

James attended Orion High School and is a graduate of the class of 1981.  James met many friends through KCCDD Workshop.  He went on to work for Steak ‘n Shake as a dishwasher for 17 years. After that, he worked at Hy-Vee from 2015 up until his retirement in 2024.  He took great pride in the fact that his various occupations allowed him to contribute to his community.

James served as a conference panelist for the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD), Washington, D.C., July 2022.  He was a proud participant of the Special Olympics Bowling event.  James was an avid collector of many movies, T-shirts and sports memorabilia.  He was a faithful Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan.  He enjoyed discussing history, pop culture, and current events. His knowledge of music and lyrics was impressive.  His favorite song was “Back in Black” by AC/DC.

James was known for his love of people, his Galesburg community, and his country. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his nieces and nephews. James was a forgiving, faith filled follower of Jesus Christ. He drew his strength through the Lord’s Prayer

Cremation will be accorded.  A visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2024, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel.  A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m.  Chaplain Jordan Knight will officiate.  Cremation burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo, Illinois at 1:30 p.m. after the service.  Memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus of Galesburg.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
