Janice Darlene Calhoun, age 81, of Carman, Illinois, formerly of Washington, Illinois (Sunnyland), passed away at 8:12 a.m. Monday, August 12, 2024, at her home, surrounded by loved ones.  She was born September 16, 1942 in Oakdale, California, the daughter of Elmer Ray and Josephine Skinner Harper.  On March 27, 1961, she married Mark Reese Calhoun in Reno, Nevada.  He preceded her in death on February 14, 1996.

Mrs. Calhoun lived in the Sunnyland community of Washington. Illinois area for may years, before moving to Carman in 1992.  She worked as office manager for several automobile dealerships, including the John Bearce Dealership, Uftrings Dealership, Pekin Lincoln-Mercury Dealership and the Velde Dealership.  She also managed the Scrub Tub Landromat in Sunnyland Plaza for several years.

She enjoyed cooking her famous amazing meals, especially her breakfasts, that everyone in her family loved. She also loved spending her time watching movies and playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters: Monica Space of Burlington, IA, Marla (David) Smith of Washington, IL, Rhonda Winchester of Mt. Olive, IL, one daughter-in-law: Shelly (Calhoun) Kee of Low Point, IL, thirteen grandchildren: Clint and Curt Minter, Jade and Jake Winchester, Chelsie McKinney, Hailey Snyder, Dakota Smith, Zakkery Reese, Christan “C.J.” Space, Cullen Space, Mark Ryan Calhoun,  Jesse Calhoun, and Jordan Kee, nineteen great grandchildren, two brothers: Eugene Harper of Coeur d’Alene, ID, Larry Harper of Riverbank, CA,  and one sister: Paula Webb of Escalon, CA.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons: Mark R. Calhoun Jr. and Mark Allen Calhoun, and siblings: Donald and Melvin Harper and Lena Greene.

No services are planned at this time.  A Celebration of Life will be organized by the family in the spring of 2025. Cremation has been entrusted to Banks & Beals Funeral Home of Stronghurst.  Burial will be in the Carman Cemetery, at a later date.  Please visit Janice’s obituary at banksandbeals.com to leave a condolence.
