Monmouth College volleyball will start their second season under the direction of Derrick Broekemier. Broekmier came to Monmouth from the Chicago-area. He has been an assistant coach at North Central College and coached club volleyball in the Chicago-area for the past 7 seasons. According to the monmouthscot.com volleyball page Broekemier, a native of Central City, Nebraska, is a self-proclaimed volleyball nerd that stemmed from watching great high school volleyball and following the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball program as a kid. He, himself, played club volleyball as a four-year starting outside at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Monmouth College finished in 5th place in the Midwest Conference in 2023, just one game from qualifying for the conference tournament at (4-4). The Scots were (11-13) overall in Broekmier’s first season at the helm. On a recent visit to the WRAM Morning Show, he says the program took a step forward to being competitive on a consistent basis.

The Fighting Scots will start their season with an exhibition match at home at Glennie Gymnasium against the University of St. Francis on Tuesday, August 20th. The regular season will officially start with four matches at the Battle at the Point tournament in Sandusky, Ohio the weekend of August 30th and 31st. The Fighting Scots will host their first tournament in several years on September 13th and 14th. They begin Midwest Conference play on Friday, October 4th at Ripon College.
