As the parking lot located off South First Street nears completion, Monmouth Mayor Rod Davies provides an update on the progress of the Downtown beautification project by Porter Brothers Construction in the northeast quadrant:

“They are really hitting their stride. They have a number of crews in town. When you open up and go into these underground projects, you find big voids where there used to be coal chutes or access points to the basements of the buildings, some cisterns around that used to hold water for fire suppression, so as they encounter those they have to build them out, brace the walls up before they can fill it with rock, and then finish with concrete. They have gotten the ADA sidewalk poured back along City Hall to the gap between the buildings, I call it the Breezeway there between the two buildings with access to the parking lot.”

Meanwhile, the Monmouth City Council has accepted a $52,487 bid by Dowers Roofing to replace the roof on the former City Hall building.
