Some High School Football Teams Gearing Up for Week “0” Scrimmages

Share

Last December, Illinois High School Association member schools approved a proposal to create “Week 0” scrimmages, which take place the weekend before the first games of the season. This year’s preseason contests will be held this Friday and Saturday says Mercer County High School athletic director Dustin Murray.

The scrimmages have to follow specific guidelines – a maximum of 48 total plays are allowed split into four separate 12-play segments. There are no special teams snaps and IHSA officials must be used.

Speaking of Mercer County High School, they will play their conference games in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference for the first time in school history. After a long run in the Lincoln Trail Conference, the Mercer County school board voted to accept the invitation from the TRAC. They will play their first athletic contest in the Three Rivers on the golf course as the Golden Eagles will take on Monmouth-Roseville and Mendota at Mendotal Golf Club on Monday. The first TRAC football game for Mercer County will be on Friday, August 30th as they open their season up at Monmouth-Roseville.
