Story by Kadin Rogers
The Monmouth-Roseville Titans football team officially opened up Three Rivers Conference Mississippi division play on Friday night, going on the road to Kewanee to take on the Boilermakers on their brand new artificial turf field. That being said, Monmouth-Roseville put on a great show on turf, putting up 55 points in a commanding win. From the opening drive the Titans took care of business, with Nick Huston opening the scoring party with a 26 yard rushing touchdown. After a three and out from Kewanee’s offense, Landon Montroy, fresh off a 242 yard, 4 score performance housed a 59 yarder to up the Titans lead to 14-0 to end the first quarter.
The Boilermakers offense found a bit of momentum with a drive deep into M-R territory, before a strip sack fumble gave the ball back to the Titans. This moment lead to a trio of Titans touchdowns throughout the quarter, with Montroy and Huston adding a touchdown each to their totals, and quarterback Clay Casteel hitting receiver Elliott Rogers in the end zone on a fantastic throw and catch on a fade route in the end zone for the Titans second passing touchdown on the season. All told Monmouth-Roseville would take a 32-0 lead into the halftime break.
To open the second half, the Titans just needed 8 points to trigger a running clock for the rest of the contest, and they would get that as Montroy punched in a goal line touchdown with a successful two point try on their first offensive drive of the half. During the running clock period, the Titans would give up their first score of the game on defense, but would add on two more touchdowns from Ty Moore and KeShawn Crawford to reach the game’s final score of 55-7. In the stat book for Monmouth-Roseville, Clay Casteel completed both of his passes for 26 yards and a score, while the rushing stable of Nick Huston and Landon Montroy combined for a total of 209 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Titans remain unbeaten with the win, improving to 3-0 overall, and they will now shift their focus to the Mendota Trojans, as they welcome them to Coach Dobry Field next Friday night for a special homecoming weekend game.
