Two Arrested in Connection to Knox County Burglary

On July 17, 2024, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary to a garage, where a Kawasaki dirt bike, belonging to the deceased homeowner, had been stolen. Knox County Investigations conducted surveillance on the residence for several days until two subjects were observed, burglarizing the garage again.

Jacob Schleich (DOB 7/27/1981) of 480 S Soangetaha Rd Apt 1, Galesburg and Jeffrey Butts (DOB 12/23/1967) Homeless, were arrested on scene and charged with Residential Burglary and Criminal Trespass to Residence.

Knox County Investigations continued the investigation until the dirt bike was located at 609 Ohio Ave in Galesburg and returned. Knox County Investigations also assisted in securing the remainder of the property in a safe location so no further thefts would occur. This case is currently still under investigation.

Knox County Sheriff Jack Harlan Jr. is committed to protecting the residents of Knox County and their property and the Sheriff’s Office will continue to work hard to fulfill that mission.

All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
