While waking up to or locating a bat in your home is disturbing, Jenna Link, Warren County Health Department Administrator, informs they should be caught and tested for rabies:
“If by chance you wake up to a bat in your bedroom, the recommendation is that the bat be submitted for testing because you may not feel a bite and you can’t really see the bite because their teeth are just some fine that you don’t really notice. So, if you wake up to a bat in your bedroom, that really should be tested for rabies.”
Link advises wearing gloves while trying to catch the bat to prevent any bites and to also block any gaps around your home that a bat could eventually find its’ way inside.
