Jeanne R. Maher, 98, of Galesburg, died at 3:10 a.m. Friday, September 13, 2024, in Seminary Manor.

She was born August 4, 1926, in Henderson County, the daughter of William J. “Will” and Ellen M. “Nellie” (Ryan) Reedy. She married Martin J. Maher Sr. on October 24, 1947, in Bloomington. He preceded her in death on February 1, 2004, after more than 56 years of marriage.

She is survived by her children, Martin J. Maher Jr. of Sunrise, Florida, Pamela Klapp of Galesburg, and Theresa (Rodney) Lake of Savoy, Illinois; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and three sisters.

Jeanne graduated from Alexis High School in 1944 and the Cottage Hospital School of Nursing in 1947, as Cadet Nurse. She worked as a registered nurse, where 36 years of her career were spent at Cottage Hospital. She retired in 1986.

Jeanne was a founding member and served as the third president of the American Society of Post Anesthesia Nurses. Jeanne also had several articles published within her field. She was an active member of several professional nursing organizations.

Jeanne was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She was also a volunteer for several area organizations.

Visitation will be 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral and Cremation Services of Galesburg. Funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Deacon Michael Crummer officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Research Center. Online condolences and memories may be shared on the funeral home’s website at www.h-p-w.com.
