Mrs. Neva J. (Vollmar) Brown, 87, of Maquon, Illinois, died at 10:25 p.m., Thursday, September 5, 2024, at home.

She was born March 15, 1937, in Fairview, Illinois, to Howard C. and Margaret L. Vollmar. She married Phil F. Brown on May 5, 1957, at the Fairview Reformed Church in Fairview, Illinois.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Phil; daughters Kathleen (Sean) O’Donnell-Brown, Kristine (Michael) Carey, Kelly Porter; son Brian (Glorimar) Brown; grandchildren Kiel (Tammy DeCounter) Johnson, Zanny (Tom Reeder) O’Donnell, Malcolm (Sarah Snyder) O’Donnell, Elisabeth Carey, Joel Carey, Stephen Carey, Anna Carey, Jonathan Carey, Marissa (Bradley) Marsh, Kennedy Brown, Javier Tosado-Soto; great-grandchildren Bryanna Johnson, Bradley Jr., Calvin, and Theodore Marsh; sister Jalayne Vollmar.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Margaret Vollmar, and her brothers Virgil, George, and Kermit Vollmar.

Neva attended Brown’s Business College in Peoria, Illinois, then worked at Fairview State Bank until they started their family. After raising her family, she worked part-time in the Maquon Library. She was also a capable herdsman, helping Phil work with their Hampshire sheep and Angus cattle until she was 80. Neva made many beautiful quilts and won awards at the Knox County Fair. She belonged to the Prairie Quilters Club, where she served as president for several years. A lifelong churchgoer, she attended the Fairview Reformed Church and then the Maquon Methodist Church. Neva and Phil enjoyed bowling for many years in leagues at Northgate Lanes in Galesburg, Illinois. She was a wonderful cook and baked brownies for many family events. Sunday dinner at their house was always delicious and enjoyed by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 11, 5-7 p.m., at Hurd-Hendrick’s Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois. Funeral will be Thursday, September 12, 10 a.m., at the Maquon Methodist Church, Maquon, Illinois. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, Illinois.
