Roy G. Brent, 93, of Oquawka, IL, passed away at 6:36 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. 

He was born on April 10, 1931 in Henderson County, Illinois, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Donald Brent.  Roy was raised and educated in Henderson County and Graduated from G & O High School.

Roy served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. 

Roy married Saundra J. Dean in Gladstone, IL and from that marriage they had two children, LeRoy & O’Kim.  He later married Phyllis Tyner on January 19, 1977 in the middle of the creek at Jinks Hollow; she preceded him in death on February 5, 2019. 

 Roy farmed for several years in the Henderson County area.  He later worked at JI Case in Burlington, IA until his retirement.  Roy loved a good Budweiser and enjoyed working in his garden.  He was a friend to many and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. 

Surviving Roy are his children, LeRoy (Anita) Brent of Oquawka, IL, O’Kim Brent of Oquawka, IL; his grandchildren, Sheldon Barker of Oquawka, IL, Tara Grafton of Oquawka, IL, Shane Grafton of Oquawka, IL; and his great grandchildren, Kadence Grafton, Gavin Grafton, and Seaton Grafton all of Oquawka, IL.  Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and his beloved dog, Precious. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis; and several brothers and sisters.      

Cremation rites have been accorded.  A Celebration of Life will be at a later date for Roy & Phyllis.  Memorials can be made to the Roy Brent Memorial Fund and can be sent to the funeral home.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
