Annually, the Monmouth Police Department conducts active threat trainings at the local school districts with the faculty and staff. Any threat is taken very seriously, and Chief Joe Switzer encourages everyone that if they see or know something, report it immediately:
“We take those threats very seriously. Obviously, we want to discourage those types of things. We will take aggressive actions to find out who is making that threat and follow through with charges for the individuals who are making those types of threats. With a majority of these threats that get made, it doesn’t matter where it is at, someone else knows about this. Whether it be another student, a parent, a family member of some type, somebody else knows about these threats. The biggest thing I think we see is, historically, people that were aware, they didn’t say anything to anybody. If you are aware of something like that, you need to tell somebody.”
