Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sept. 8, 2024:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior football player, Payton Thompson. Payton’s footprints were all over a 60-26 win over Orion. He rushed for 233 yards on just 8 carries, scoring four touchdowns. The most amazing thing…..Payton’s yards all came in the first half alone.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior boys golfer, Aiden Martin. Aiden was lights out on his home course of Gibson Woods in the annual United Red Storm Open. He posted the best individual score of the day, shooting a 4-over par 75. One day later, Aiden was also the meet medalist in a triangular meet at Midland Golf Club, carding a 9-hole of 41.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior football player, Alex McGraw. Alex ran wild in a 38-26 win over Bushnell-Prairie City. He rushed for 109 yards from the line of scrimmage, hitting the endzone on one of those from 37 yards out. Alex also reached paydirt on not one, but two, 75+ yards kickoff returns.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior football player, Jamar Range. Jamar had an amazing, school-record performance in a 34-26 win over Limestone. He rushed for an astounding 392 yards. The Streaks needed all of those yards and his 3 touchdowns to get the non-conference victory.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is sophomore football player, Carson Stenger. Carson’s two-way play helped the Tornadoes to their first win of the season on the road at South Fulton. He carried the ball for 92 yards and one touchdown, including a 43 yard second-half scamper that essentially put the game away. Carson also had 7 tackles with six solos on defense.
