Abingdon-Avon Remains in the Playoff Hunt with Last Minute Win over Havana

Share

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado football team played an instant ESPN Classic-type game on Friday night at Havana High School. The Tornadoes trailed 28-12 at the half and by six points late in the game. Following a touchdown by the Ducks and a squib kickoff, A-Town found themeselves on their own end of the field with only 12 seconds left. After a long pass, Tornado head coach Rick Quinn called his final timeout with one second left and the ball at the Havana 14 yard line. A touchdown pass to tie and a two-point conversion with no time on the clock, gave the Tornadoes the win and remain in the hunt for a playoff berth. On the WRAM Morning Show on Tuesday, Quinn said he’s very proud of the fight of his ballclub.

The victory gives Abingdon-Avon an overall record of (3-4) as they search for the magic 5th win that would most likely sew up a playoff spot. The Tornadoes take on (6-1) Elmwood-Brimfield on Friday at home.
