Carol J. Johnson, age 88, formerly of Olena, Illinois, passed away Monday, September 30, 2024 at Grand Prairie Assisted Living Center in Macomb, Illinois. She was born June 16, 1936 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Edith Papes Larson. On January 6, 1957, she married Karl Leon “Swede” Johnson in Stronghurst. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2019.
Carol had worked at Jacob’s True Value in Stronghurst and was a Dental Assistant for Dr. Butler in Stronghurst. She also was a care giver for Tucker Peterson for several years. She enjoyed playing the organ and piano, and cooking and caring for her family. She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Stronghurst and sang in the church choir for many years.
Survivors include one daughter: Patty Gough of Olena, three sons: Mike Johnson of Jordan MN, John Johnson of Blue Springs, MO, and Tom Johnson of Burlington, IA, eight grandchildren: Sarah Doering, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Bundschu, Sarah Harr, Justin and Jared Johnson, Karissa Fisk, Christy Humphrey, and Chad Stephens, one great granddaughter: Tomi Doering, and three nephews, Kent, Steve, and Mark Larson. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one grandchild: Bradley Johnson, and two brother: Larry Larson and Earl Larson Jr.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday October 4, 2024 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, with Quentin Peterson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Service. Burial will be in the Stronghurst Cemetery. A memorial find has been established for the American Cancer Society.
