Ernest L. “Ernie” Crooks, 71, of Monmouth, Il passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at his home.

Ernie was born November 30, 1952 in Monmouth, the son of Melvin and Betty (Lee) Crooks.  He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1970.

Ernie married Judy Pruitt in Monmouth on April 15, 1976 and she survives.

He worked building boats as a grinder for Glastex in Monmouth several years.  He also worked at Briggs Pottery in Abingdon for a time. 

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.  Ernie enjoyed watching NASCAR, the Green Bay Packer and the Chicago Cubs.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Crooks of Monmouth; 2 sons, Dale Crooks of Galesburg, IL and Eric Crooks of Knoxville, IL; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; his brother, Norris (Cheryl) Crooks of Oquawka, IL; 4 sisters, Rita Cook of Beardstown, IL, Chris McLaughlin of Monmouth, Debbie Fry of Alexis, IL and Linda Vollbracht of Cameron, IL; numerous nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 niece and 1 nephew.

Cremation has been accorded. No services are planned at this time. Memorials can be given to the Ernest L. Crooks Memorial Fund and sent to the funeral home to assist the family with funeral expenses or a donation may be made directly by way of the funeral home website: www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com/resources/make-a-payment.
