Mr. George B. Jarvis, Jr. 96, passed away at 7:05 pm, Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Marigold Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

George was born September 10, 1928, in Plymouth, Illinois the son of George B. and Ethel (Harter) Jarvis, Sr. He married Alice M. Bushmire in Peoria, Illinois on December 10, 1949. After 54 years of marriage, Alice preceded him in death January 5, 2003.

Left to cherish his memories are his children, Max (Teresa) Jarvis of Galesburg, Eva (Dick) Miller of Galesburg and Dianne (the late Garry) Gipson of Horse Cave, Kentucky; his sister, Lola Foulk of Quincy, Illinois; his special friend, Marie Ferry of Galesburg; eight grandchildren, William Bowman, Tina Benedict, Richard (Nikki) Miller, Jr., Jeff (Tina) Gipson, Jacob (Sara) Gipson, Chasity (Robert) Smith, Brian (Nichole) Jarvis and Sam (Kate) Jarvis, twenty-two great grandchildren and seventeen great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Alice, his daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Terry Jacobs, and his two brothers, Max and Donald.

George moved to Galesburg in 1948 and began working for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a carman for over 42 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the TCU Union #6787, O.A.K.S. Senior Center and a lifetime member of Little John Conservation Club. George also was a member of the former Moose Lodge #880 and was a faithful member of the Road to Freedom Church.

George was an avid bowler, belonging to the Galesburg Bowling Association. George also enjoyed running in the demolition derbies in the area.

Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 am Monday, October 21, 2024, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel with services beginning at 10:00 am Monday, at the chapel with Pastor Randy Koch officiating. The burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be to the Road to Freedom Church. Online condolences may be offered at www.h-p-w.com
