Many farmers in west central Illinois went into harvest 2024 not knowing what to expect in their fields. For some, wind storms early in the growing season brought green snap. For others, like Jared Kunkle, he was surprised to see how quickly the corn crop dried.
“I had to do a double take because I saw some 11 percent corn moisture go through. Normally people are happy if they can cut 11 to 13 percent soybeans, not corn. It’s just one of those where I’m like, was that really corn?” Kunkle adds, “And it’s been fairly consistent. And I’ve even heard of one guy that had a 10 percent [corn] and he had an agronomist with him.”
Kunkle adds for soybeans he has been seeing mainly 8 to 9 percent soybeans.
