Heard, Corgan Score but Scots Fall at Knox

The Monmouth College men’s soccer team scored twice in the second half but fell at Knox 5-2 on Wednesday.

An own goal in the sixth minute gave Knox the lead and they made it 2-0 less than 10 minutes later. Monmouth put three shots on goal in the first half but didn;t break through,

Early in the second half, the Scots won a free kick in the attacking third. Aimilios Ioannou (Larnaca Cyprus) sent in the free kick and it off the far post. Logan Corgan (Geneseo, Illinois) was there to knock the ball across the line for his second goal of the season, cutting the Knox lead to 2-1.

Down 4-1, the Scots kept charging forward late in the game. The ball went into the right corner and Mathew HIpolito (Plainfield, Illinois) hit a cross that found Branyon Heard (St. Louis, Missouri) for a goal with less than 10 seconds to play.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Treyton Yi (Streamwood, Illinois) played all 90 minutes for the 13th time this season … Goalkeeper Alejandro Zamarripa (El Paso, Texas) played all 90 minutes and made four saves … Shots on goal were 9-8 in favor of Monmouth … Four different players had two shots on goal: Ioannou, Heard, Owen Murray (Cedar City, Utah) and Isai Barajas (El Paso, Texas) … Heard scored his first goal of the season after providing five assists last season … HIpolito has two assists … Knox leads the all-time series 39-18-4 with nine straight wins … The Scots do not have any more road games this season …Monmouth will host Ripon at 11am on Saturday
