The Western Illinois Museum is excited to welcome Humbletown, joined by local favorite John Lane, for a performance on Our Front Porch on Tuesday, October 22nd, at 6:30 pm. Doors and bar open at 5:30 pm, with music beginning at 6:30 pm. A suggested donation of $5 is encouraged at the door.
Formed in the humble prairie town of Vermillion, South Dakota, Humbletown has become a dynamic, multi-genre ensemble with bluegrass roots. Now based in the Black Hills, the band draws inspiration from the serene beauty of the pine-filled forests. Their original songs, inspired by home and travel, are performed with precision by Morgan Carnes on clawhammer banjo, Dylan Lewis flatpicking on the guitar, and Alex Diaz on upright bass. Humbletown’s sound blends bluegrass, old-time, hot club swing, Americana, and classic country, offering a musical journey that spans across time and genres.
Their 2022 debut album, The Path I Chose to Walk, received international recognition. Americana UK described it as: “The first impression on listening to these songs, built around virtuosity on clawhammer banjo and flat-picking guitar, is that this collection feels as though it was discovered nearly a century ago by the great ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax.” The album’s title track video, “Vines,” premiered on Bluegrass Situation, and Americana Highways described the album as “A blend of old-time country, folk, and bluegrass. The musicianship is stellar, featuring fingerpicking on acoustic guitar and banjo. The mix of male and female vocals balances the material impressively.”
Humbletown has toured both nationally and regionally, performing at numerous festivals. They have shared the stage with acts such as Wood Belly, Charlie Parr, Damn Tall Buildings, Songs from the Road Band, and many more. Watch their performances on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@humbletownband
