John W. Sargeant, 83, of Avon, Illinois, passed away at 2:58 p.m., Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, Illinois. He was born January 9, 1941 in Galesburg, the son of Elmer and Florence (Stoddard) Sargeant. He was raised and educated in Galesburg. After high school he entered into the United States Army from 1959-1962.

Those left to cherish his memory are daughter; Tracy Felgar (Mike McCoy) Roberts and Pam (Tony) Coupland, sons, David (Ethel) Felgar, Larry (Gina) Felgar, John M. Sargeant and Robert Kepple (son-in-law); brother, Leonard Sargeant; sister, Joyce Larson; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alice Sanders; one daughter, Tammy (Robert) Kepple; one infant son, John W. Sargeant, Jr.; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

John farmed in the Avon area for many years. He also worked for the railroad and Butler Manufacturing for a time.

He enjoyed watching NCIS on television. His greatest love was his family and he enjoyed when his great-granddaughter Violet would visit.

Cremation rites have been accorded with a celebration of John’s life to be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family to aid with funeral expenses and left in the care of the funeral home. Moore Memorial Home, Avon, is handling the arrangements.
