Monmouth/Galesburg Area IHSA Football Storylines for Week 7

Share

Every week of the IHSA football season has its own plot lines. This week 7 is definitely no exception. As each season progresses, more and more scenarios exists. Monmouth-Roseville’s season has had its share of “firsts”. Along with the first (6-0) start in consolidation history, the Titans have a chance to win its first outright TRAC division title with a road win tonight. Monmouth-Roseville shared a division title in 2018 with Princeton and Spring Valley Hall at (5-1). Princeton was named the division’s automatic qualifier via the tiebreaker procedure. Monmouth-Roseville went on to the quarterfinals before losing to Herscher 24-20 on a cold Saturday afternoon. Hall will be the Titan’s opponent this evening. The Red Devils are in a co-op with Putnam County but play their home games at Hall High School in Spring Valley. The Red Devils are (1-5) on the season, with their only win coming over win-less Mendota in week 3. Monmouth-Roseville is coming off a 69-12 win over Sherrard in week 6. The Titans led 62-12 at the half.

Nearly every high school football team compiles a list of goals at the start of the season. Monmouth-Roseville head coach Jeremy Adolphson says his team has a chance to check one of those off tonight.

The Titans and Red Devils kickoff at 7:00. Our Sunny 97.7 WMOI pregame show will hit the air at 6:35. Monmouth-Roseville ends the regular season with a senior night home game in week 8 against Rockridge and a trip to Sterling Newman in week 9. Newman beat Rockridge last week in overtime and will also have a chance to clinch a TRAC Rock Division title with a win at home vs. Riverdale tonight. Therefore, the week 9 battle between the Titans and Newman in week 9 would be for a pseudo conference title.

The United Red Storm are hoping to give head coach Andrew Goodwin his first career head coaching victory in a road trip to Table Grove. Despite being (0-6), United has been competitive in nearly every game in 2024, including an overtime loss to 2023 quarterfinalist ROWVA/Williamsfield in week 3 and an 18-6 loss to (5-1) Rushville/Industry in week 2. The Red Storm are coming off a 28-18, week 6 loss to (2-4) Abingdon-Avon last Friday night. The common denominator of all of their losses has been a slow start. Goodwin says it’s imperative to get off to a good start against the (1-5) South Fulton Rebels tonight in week 7.

The Red Storm and Rebels will kickoff at 7:00, with our AM 1330/FM 95.7 WRAM pregame show starting at 6:35.
